Nicole Richie’s new show, Candidly Nicole, premiered last night on VH1. It’s a slightly scripted reality show (not like the other slightly scripted ones, we’re in on the secret on this show!) featuring Nicole in various (real life?) situations.
On last night’s premiere, she talked about right away how she missed out on the whole online dating thing, and is super-curious about it. This has been a subject I’ve been talking about for at least a year! I hear about my friends’ Tinder dates, and OK Cupid dates so much, and all the horror – well for them, for me it’s hilarious – stories. I have a serious case of FOMO while in my 10 year relationship, and it seems as though homegirl does, too. You guys know she is my spirit animal, right?
Intertwined in that storyline, Nicole takes us on a ride in her Audi, and avoids parallel parking at all costs. All costs – like calling an UberX costs. Dad Lionel Richie intervenes and attempts to teach her by having her park between a garbage can and a life-size cardboard cutout of himself. Being a New Yorker, born and raised, I’m unsure what requirements are necessary in order to pass your California road test, but I was required to parallel park. I did. On my second road test. But soon after, I lost the skill, and needless to say it is not like riding a bike, it doesn’t easily come back to you, and it is completely frustrating because it is NOT something you can do privately. People always watch, and in my case (and Nicole’s), point and laugh. Anyone else notice she took off her sunglasses to parallel park? I do the same, but I’m also one of those people who turn off the music when I’m lost.
Long story short, I’ve determined that Nicole Richie is watching me. She’s humorously living out my life on camera and on national television. Obviously.
