My First Ipsy Glam Bag

I’ve never been a huge fan of subscription boxes – They’re typically over-priced and impractical.  But a few weeks ago I was introduced to Ipsy. The selling point for me was the price, $10. I also liked that I was able to fill out a profile about my coloring and make-up preferences so the bag is tailored more to my liking.  My first bag arrived a few weeks ago, and to my surprise, I love it and have been using four of the five products…Daily!

Let’s start with the eyeliner, it’s Mr. Write (Now) in Jac. I’ve never heard of this brand before, it seems to sell at various places for $17. That’s a far cry from the Maybelline and Cover Girl eyeliners I typically use! It’s a mechanical pencil, and the color, Jac, is a light brown, which I think goes well with my blue/grey eyes.

I’m not sure if the contents of the bag is meant to be used together, but I’ve been using the eyeliner with the eyeshadow it came with: Naked, Sierra Nevada. It’s a loose golden/brown powder that I’ve been applying with my finger. Actually, I apply most of make-up with my fingers, as I feel like I have more control that way. I usually wear a taupe color on my eyes, but I’m really liking the lighter gold shimmer, especially with the eyeliner up against it!

The bag also came with a blush stick, trèStique in Bora Bora Coral. I’ve never used a blush stick before, and to be quite honest, am still not sure if I’m using it correctly, but regardless, I like the look I’m getting from it! I draw a few lines on  my cheeks, then use my hands to rub it in. It gives my pale skin a nice rosey, porcelain doll-type look.

Lastly, I’ve been carrying around the Carrot + Rose hydrating cream, as my skin has been drier than usual so far this winter (I blame the pregnancy!). It’s a light and smooth cream that smells delicious!  I haven’t been using the tub of cream the bag came with, mainly because I have a giant tub of Palmer’s coco butter I use, but I’m sure I’d like it, especially based on my love for the rest of the bag!

Let’s not forget the bag itself that the products come in. It’s SO CUTE, and practical for travel! I know I’m not going to be traveling much this year, but I think I’ll be storing my makeup in there for when the time comes to deliver the baby!

Here’s a close-up of the finished product:

New Makeup Obsession: Kajal

My latest makeup obsession is Kajal.  I’ve previously mentioned it, as I had ordered a version of it from Myabelline (it shipped from India!) but recently got my hands on an official liner!

To give you a refresher, Kajal is popular with women in the Middle East and North Africa, and is a smudge proof eyeliner made for the waterbed. While I thought the Maybelline version was great, the official Kajal blows that one out of the water!

Looks like a cute little pen, right? When I opened it, which by the way is a twist off (took me a while), I was greeted with a full stick of pure liner:

I’m not going to lie, I was a little intimidated at first. The first thing I thought was how much of a mess I was going make. It looks like it’s going to get all over my hands, face, and clothes, as I’ve been warned its hard to remove. But, so far so good. I’ve been able to keep if off of inanimate objects and on my eyes! New Make Up Regime

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been on the hunt for a perfect red-lip for my skin color. I’m pretty pale with blue eyes, coloring many would think is a natural pairing for red lips, but I feel like I look like a clown with all of the color on my face.

Finally, a few weeks ago, I ventured into MAC on a mission. As a 31-year-old I thought it was time to get a signature red, and I wasn’t leaving until I found one. And I did! Ruby Woo, I even purchased the lip-liner (Cherry) so that it finishes the lip – according to the sales associate it makes all the difference!

Mac Lipstick Ruby WooA make-up staple of mine has always been black eyeliner in my waterbed. I literally never leave the house without it. Well, except if I’m going on a run or to the gym, it just really makes my eyes pop.  I’ve been using some Maybelline eyeliner that has been great for as long as I can remember, but came across an article on Buzzfeed that made me want to try something new: Kajal.  Kajal is a type of eyeliner worn mostly by women in the Middle East and North Africa that is smudge proof, and from what I’m told is made specifically for the waterbed. So on March 23rd, I placed an order of Maybelline’s version on Amazon, and because it ships from India, it arrived April 14th!

Kajal Maybelline

I put it straight to the test! It goes on well, and I don’t need to even smudge it out with a q-tip to give it that extra edge I love.  As you see on the packaging, it boasts a 12-hour stay, which I didn’t get, but, it is certainly smudge proof! With other eyeliners I’ve used in the past, by the end of the day, the eyeliner magically traveled to under my lower lashes, and I end up looking like I was crying, but not with the kajal!

Though I didn’t set out for a “new look” so-to-speak, I’m really loving it!

Morning, Laurie.

Pucker Up!

I’m usually a bare-lip kinda gal. Either nothing at all or a light pink gloss. But lately, I’ve been having the urge to experiment with colorful lips.

I’ve been watching too much Netflix. I’m currently watching all of ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars. No, I’m not going off topic here. Ashley Benson’s character Hannah wears some killer lip colors, and I’m completely inspired:

Fun, right? It’s even more fun experimenting in the summer with bright, glossy lips! Color me delighted!
