Let’s Get HappiSnappi!

One of the many fun parts of being a mommy to a little girl is dressing her up!  In addition to the frills and tutus, there are headbands. Mommies, you know what I’m talking about – the headbands with the big flowers. There’s a part of me that finds them a little obnoxious, and then there’s a part of me that loves them!  A brand that allows for you to flex your creative muscles, and keep the obnoxious to a minimum is HappiSnappi!

With a simple snap, young girls can choose from a wide variety of snap-on/off floral embellishments that easily attach to the brand’s headbands, knit hats, necklaces, hair clips, and more. Every item has the same snaps, so you can mix and match embellishments with every piece, making the fashion possibilities endless.

The brand isn’t just mix and match – it gives back! The company, created by child therapist Karlee Ohm and her nine-year-old daughter Peyton, donates one hat to a children’s hospital for every hat purchased. Additionally, the mommy/daughter duo teamed up with Sadie Keller, a brave and courageous 9-year-old who is fighting leukemia. In an effort to find a cure by bringing attention to the issue and donating proceeds to her cause, HappiSnappi will donate 50% of online sales to the Sadie Keller Foundation for the remainder of the year.

With the holidays just around the corner, this is a great gift for that special little girl in your life, with the added bonus of having proceeds go to charity. Prices range from $3.50 to $22.50.

Holiday Gift Guide: Barbie Edition

Have I ever shared my love of Barbie on here? When I was little, I of course played with her, but as I grew up my love for her evolved into more of a nostalgia-sort-of-way. I began collecting holiday Barbies in the year 2000 when the special millennium Barbie debuted, and I began looking into the various collections of her, and learning more about her history (or birth, if you will), and she just all around consumed me. I wrote my senior thesis on the “Media Coverage of Barbie,” which was hard to stay on track, because the psychological aspect of her (Barbie’s the only doll we refer to as “her” or “she”) was so much more interesting to me.

Still, at 32, I want to keep up with my Barbie collection, and still dream of the day I can own the FAO Schwartz Barbie Shoe Fountain in my home. Until then, here are some Barbie gifts that can hold us Barbie lovers over!

2015 Holiday Barbie

The most obvious is the Barbie Collector 2015 Holiday Doll, which can be purchased at just about any toy store.  Toy’s R Us is selling it for $36.99.

Barbie Jewelry

I’ve had my eye on this jewelry line by Margaux Lange for years. I’m completely obsessed with it.  As you can see, she creates unique jewelry pieces out of Barbie dolls. Lange also is fascinated with Barbie, as the about section of her site states this collection is “meant to examine and celebrate her own (as well as pop culture’s) relationship with the icon known simply as: Barbie.”  You can purchase products on her shop.

Bob Mackie Collector Doll

Bob Mackie and Barbie’s relationship goes back almost as much as the designer’s relationship with Cher. These carefully crafted Barbie costumes are mini-pieces of art, and are a must-have for any Barbie fan.  Check them out in all their glory!

2016 Wall Calendar

Every year for Chanukah my mom would buy me a Barbie calendar for the following year, and it was always something I looked forward to. This one is available at Barnes and Noble for $14.

Barbie Art

Canvas prints are so  in right now, and what Barbie-lover would’t love to have a few of these plastered around. These prints are available on Art.com for about $35.

Holiday Gift Guide: Mets Fan Edition!

It was a good year to be a Queens gal, let me tell ya! Granted the Mets didn’t win The World Series, but the fact they made it that far is a huge win in and of itself, and my boro was bursting with pride!

Mets fans are die-hards, and we’re all hoping for them to bring home the title in 2016. Here’s a list of some swag to buy the Mets fan in your life!

Holiday Gift Guide For the Nail Polish Junkie

As you probably know, I’m obsessed with DIY nail art. I’m sure many of you are, as well, or know someone who is. Over the next few weeks, I’ll be rolling out various gift guides focusing on different obsessions so  you can brighten that special someone’s holiday season that much more. Today, we’re all about NAILS!

NAIL TAPE

One of the basics and must-haves for DIY nail art! You can use this tape as part of a design or use it to create negative space nail art. Best of all, you can get it from Amazon for $2.00! A great stocking stuffer!

NAIL DECALS

Paw-Print-Nail-Decals-Animal-Rescue

Nail decals are a great way to fake nail art. Instead of working meticulously to draw on designs, just slap on sticker when your nails dry, and apply a top coat. My two favorite brands are NAILTHINS and Cover It In Vinyl – both available on Etsy.

NAIL STAMPS

Screen Shot 2015-12-10 at 1.34.51 PM

Another great way to fake nail art! This time you can feel like you’re  back in Kindergarten doing arts and crafts with stamps. These kits come with stencils and a stamper so that you can choose from any color of your choice from your personal collection. This kit from Amazon for $35.00.

GEL KIT

Every good nail art aficionado knows that there’s nothing like a good gel mani to keep your nail art in tact for longer than five days. Sephora has a few to choose from, including the Ciaté London Geltox Starter Kit, Deborah Lippmann gel lab pro, and butter LONDON Patent-Gel Top & Tails

SECHE VITE

If gel isn’t your thing, then the Seche Vite top coat is the next best option. It hardens, shines and quick-dries your nails. Ricky’s sells the bottles for $10 each, but Amazon offers better deals like this one.

RHINESTONES

Another must-have in a DIY nail art junkies arsenal – rhinestones! This type of DIY nail art takes a bit more patience and isn’t for everybody, but any obsessed nail art gal is certain to give it a whirl!  They’re also pretty cheap, so it’s definitely worth it.

SPRAY PAINT NAIL POLISH

The newest nail item to hit the market is nail polish spray paint. Buzzfeed did an article on this a few weeks ago, and my friends all reached out to me immediately telling me I have to try it. I can’t wait to try it when it’s available in the Spring!  In the meantime, print up a cute coupon for that nail art junkie in your life that one of the first bottles on the market will be theirs!

Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas

I just called my husband with the perfect idea for a Valentine’s Day gift: Tickets to NBA All-Star Saturday Night. It’s something we’ve talked about doing for as long as I’ve known him, and though tickets are super-expensive, I thought now would be the best time in our lives to drop this kinda of cash because, A) It’s right here in NYC, B) We don’t have a mortgage to worry about just yet, and C) No kids and all the expenses that come with it. Both B and C will likely change soon, so I thought, Carpe Diem! But my financially responsible husband shut it down, which got me thinking about last-minute gifts. Yikes!  I gave it some thought and came up with my top three:

Dollar Shave Club Membership:

There’s no doubt about it, dudes are obsessive when it comes to their razors and what they are shaving their faces with. What better way to show you understand their neuroses than to buy into it…Literally!  Pick out a razor, choose some additional products, and like magic it will appear at his door step every month!

dollar shave club

Amazon Instant Video Gift Card

Let’s be honest, sometimes Netflix just doesn’t cut it, and your S.O. is too cheap to rent anything online since you already pay for Netflix. Put his mind at ease and get an Amazon Instant Video Gift Card so you guys can watch what you want, when you want.

Dinner

They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so why not take him to that restaurant he’s been dying to try but never had the opportunity to go?  Valentine’s Day is the perfect holiday to do that!

Honorable Mention: Massage

It’s a little “cheap” since you’re not purchasing anything, but giving massages is hard work, and at no real benefit to you. It’s a great way to show your man you care about him without breaking the banks, and of course spending quality time together!
